Accessibility


The Senckenberg Natural History Museum would like to enable participation for all visitors and is therefore constantly striving to reduce existing barriers.

Information for people with walking disabilities and wheelchair users:

About 90 percent of the exhibition area is accessible by wheelchair or walking aid. The exhibition areas “Fossils of the Messel Pit”, “Minerals”, “Edmontosaurus and Pterosaurs”, “Evolution of Man” and the exhibition “Marine reptiles and fishes” are not accessible without barriers.

A wheelchair is available -please ask our staff at the counter.There are three handicapped parking spots available behind the museum (access via Gräfstraße).

Information for people with visual impairments and blind people:

In the two exhibition areas “Evolution of Man” (1st floor) and “Fossilization” (ground floor) there are tactile exhibits marked with Braille. Other marked models are located in almost all exhibitions.

In the permanent exhibition “Aha?! Science Lab” on the ground floor, the exhibits are also designed for haptic experience. In addition, there are two stations especially for people with visual handicaps – please contact the staff in the Aha?! Science Lab.

Dogs are not allowed in the museum. Of course, assistance dogs are welcome.
