BioKompass

What could a future bioeconomy look like?

Whether to generate energy or to produce medicines, paints, plastics, or textiles – today’s economy heavily depends on fossil resources such as oil and natural gas. But those deposits are finite. Moreover, their use releases large amounts of carbon dioxide, which is harmful to the climate. To ensure a livable future for humanity, we need to utilize other resources and fundamentals. One possible solution may be found in the bioeconomy approach: among others, it strives for an efficient and conservative use of renewable resources as a source of energy and raw materials.

The project is supported by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF).

What could a bio-based economy look like in the future? What opportunities and risks are inherent in this approach? The BioKompass project approaches the future prospects of a bioeconomy from various angles and carries the discussion to the wider public.
