Forest Mobile

Forest Mobile
Outreach as part of the special exhibition “Forests: From Romanticism to the Future”

The Wäldermobil took visitors out of the museum and into the city, reaching people in urban spaces beyond the museum walls. This unique format for the special exhibition “Forests” invited visitors to explore the theme of forests from various perspectives—not only within the exhibition itself, but also in the park, throughout the city, and in the woods.

What makes forests special places, and how do they influence our lives? From April to July 2024, the Wäldermobil brought the forest to the city. On various weekend dates, it traveled through the city forest, parks, and urban spaces in Frankfurt and Bad Homburg. Together, the goal was to see the forests with new eyes, hear them differently, and get to know them through new sensations. From different perspectives, the habitats in the forest could be rediscovered with all the senses. Educators from the Senckenberg Natural History Museum, the Sinclair House Museum, and the Romanticism Museum were on hand.

During the week, the cargo bike from the Senckenberg Natural History Museum was used for school workshops. With a whole lot of materials for touching and exploring in our luggage, we visited schools and discovered the forest habitat together before the school classes came to the museum for another session.
