Artist and scientist Pınar Yoldaş presents a new site-specific installation from her ongoing research project “An Ecosystem of Excess,” which has been expanding since 2014. The focus is on the oceans—once the cradle of evolution and now heavily polluted with plastic. Taking the “Great Pacific Garbage Patch” as her starting point, Yoldaş creates a posthuman ecosystem. It encompasses speculative beings that metabolize plastics. The work is being created in cooperation with the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt as part of the exhibition “Plastic World.” There, the history of plastics in art is explored, and a broad panorama of the artistic use and evaluation of plastic as reflected in society is presented.
